Hi there, hoping someone has some suggestions on a new route. My group of 7 was planning a trip on the Grass River, Starting around Snow Lake and ending in Thompson/Pisew Falls. Now that the forest fire is effecting that area pretty seriously, we are looking for suggestions of a similar route with the following characteristics
Trip Length: 10 days, mid July Transportation: We were hoping to drive ourselves to the put in and then shuttle our second vehicle to the take out at Pisew Falls. Another route with similar shuttle capacity, or something with equivalent cost....(train?)
Ideally a maximum of 8 hours drive from Winnipeg
Difficulty - looking for river with class I through III, with portages around the very technical and big stuff, as we will be travelling without spray skirts and with a diverse group of paddling abilities.
Any suggestions people have would be welcome! Looks like we'll have to save the Grass for another year.

The Sturgeon Weir River might be a option for you guys. Starting at Pelican Narrows and paddling down to Sturgeon Landing. The Guy from the Lodge there may will do the shuttle also. On this trip you will have a couple of nice Lakes, fun rapids with good portage trails plus good camping for a group! Plus the lower Weir from Amisk to the Landing is always a great paddle!! Chris
