Route Description

See detailed trip log. Overview follows:

Drop a car at Lake Travers for shuttle.
Put-in at Achray.
12 km up Grand Lake to the hydro line (consider potential of high wind down the lake).
2P5630+3P440 to Greenleaf Lake, with cliffs and rare ferns.
Paddle and portage to White Partridge Lake (note: 4P4570 is the most stenuous portage I have found in Algonquin.
Portage and paddle 12km down White Partridge Creek to Crow River: very winding, but only 2-3 liftovers when water was high and travel was downstream (otherwise, 12-15, and plenty of clutching alder).
Paddle and portage down Crow River and down Petawawa River: be wary of dangerous rapids.
3P2650 to Lake Eustache: beautiful lake, deepest in the park, surrounded by cliffs.
Paddle and (mostly!) portage down Petawawa River to Lake Travers. Shuttle back to Achray (45 mins one way.)

General Comments

This isn't a paddling trip,it's a hike with canoes! But, it takes to you some remote and beautiful parts of the park. Be forewarned that White Partridge Lake attracts motorized fishing boats until the end of June.

I portaged from North Branch Lake to Greenleaf Lake in one day, and that was enough, my brother and I were on our seventh day of our Algonquin crossing {it took us 9 nights from access #3}. We are in very good health and have lots of stamina, I think the average person would have lots of difficulty. When it comes to the North Branch to Loonskin portage, I thougt it wasn`t that bad, even whith a 70 lbs, fiberglass canoe. Good luck and have a safe trip.
