Route Description
Access to Put-In Information:

This is a route from the head waters of the North Branch of the Thames River, near Mitchell Ontario, to "The Forks of the Thames" in downtown London, where the North and South Branch meet and turn into the Main Branch.

Start on the 36th Line just up river of the Mitchell Reservoir.  This section is more like a creek than a river.  The river resembles a creek up until after the river passes the town of St. Marys Ontario, where it widens significantly.  Many sections with class 1 and some easy class 2 rapids makes this river a lot of fun to paddle in medium to high water flow rates.  The river makes it's way to Fanshawe Reservoir and goes through the city of London Ontario.  Between the months of May to Septemeber, expect to see Bald Eagles and Ospray, as well as many other types of birds and wildlife.  This branch of the Thames River is dependent on water flow to make it paddlable. Live flow rates are available from the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority website.  Camping is only available at Fanshawe Conservation Area Campground, or along the river with prior consent from each property owner.
