This trip is one of our favourites.
Four lakes take you to the large Nanika Falls. Starting with Lamprey then Anzac, Stepp, and finally Kidprice. We were checking the possibility of lining upstream to Nanika lk. (5th) for a future trip.
On the first portage. 1.5kms up and over a ridge.

Lots of sites and a beautiful beach on Anzac.

Heading down Stepp.

Stopping for a much needed break in the shade.

Busy portage. We saw another group that had flown in to Nanika lk. and were paddling out. They said it was fairly easy with a couple of small portages around log jams. Exciting news!

Once at Kidprice lk, we set up camp and our "refuge".

Refuge from these types.

Camp neighbour.

Heading down the lake to the other end.

At last, the outflow from Nanika lk.

Heading upstream was no problem. Ferry here, ferry there.

While having lunch on a sandbar we notice someone noticing us!

After lunch we paddled down the other side of Kidprice. On the way back to camp we stop at one of the highlights, Nanika Falls.

As the sun went down, the sunset and lighting was incredible because of all the fine smoke in the air. The fire was about 20kms away.

Other campers heading out to the falls.

More neighbours.

On the portage back.

An awesome tortilla lunch on Stepp lk.

Is it getting dark all of a sudden?

We're forced to hunker down because of unreal lightning and rain. One of our spookier moments.

Lucky for us it hit while we were on the portage from Stepp to Anzac. We huddle under a tarp, whip up a coffee and start rehydrating some supper. One of those, "maybe we should just camp here" moments.
Not wanting to hole up in the tent for the night we opted to paddle and portage out in the rain. The lightning had let up, just not the rain.
Half way through the portage we stop to eat our "Chinese Laundry" (our noodle based supper) while hiding under the canoe.

Finishing up the trip with sunshine. Perfect.
