Is there a source for light canoes for mid-summer hiking between lakes? Anything I can find online is plastic, best being a few 58-poind Royalex (Royalite?) at the new outfitter in Keji.

Is more robust canoe more useful to bash a few shallows? My recollections are that in summer the water levels are so low you might as well walk any place there is a carry.

Thinking that is the best you will do. Lakes are so rock infested that no one will rent Kevlar or glass canoes.

I suppose, although outfitters everywhere else seem to rent them without over much concern. And, for similar conditions, Algonquin is full of them.

Last time I was at Keji I was longing for my ultra-light. I was certainly peeved that the then-operator of the park concession had Kevlar canoes for those who were not taking them off Kejimkujik Lake, and Crosslink (!!) for those of us who wanted to go further afield. Concrete canoes from engineering school contests!
