Just got back from doing the Pine Lake Loop in the Tobeatic. First trip since moving to NS a year ago. Beautiful area.

We put in at Sporting stream and spent the first night on Rush Lake. Portaged into Sporting lake on a good trail. Portage from Sporting to Lilttle Pine is in need of serious grooming. Other than the odd flag, often on fallen trees, the only way to know if you were on the portage was if your feet didn't snag roots. A lot of deadfall and overgrown. Doesn't look like it has been used this season.
After a night on Little Pine we continued to Big Pine. Unable to locate the campsite we continued up Pine Lake Stream back to the put in. Nice little loop. Thinking of going again to do some trail maintenance. Lost the trail several times going into Little Pine. Suprisingly we didn't see a single mosquito or blackfly the whole trip!

Had a similar experience on that portage a few years ago...still not convinced that it even exists! Many portages and sites in that area need some serious maintenance.

Thanks for posting the report.
I have posted a link to it at

Please let me know if it is posted correctly in the Southern region, as defined by the NS government.
