Right,so I debating saying anything about this but in the interest of accuracy-somewhat anyway, and for the benefit of other paddlers....here goes....
The Wiki. Of interest is the box to the right with the stat of the lake.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaspereau_LakeOnce again,the map...
https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Gaspereau+Lake/@44.9369136,-64.5801172,12794m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x4b584ea28f79e76d:0xafec4c4bf3b9d0faIf you look at the map to the west or left side of your screen you'll see two attached lakes that run north/south or up/down on your screen. These are two mile lake and four mile lake. With 55 km of shoreline plus these two plus islands your opportunities are extensive.
The roads you see marked on the map at different points are primarily woods roads. Many not passable and most gated at the point of origin on the secondary roads.
The eastern end by the #12 hwy is where the cottages are concentrated.Almost nothing elsewhere.
The north and south shores in particular offer lots of boony experiences relatively speaking of course. Most of the boat traffic you see will go from welton landing straight up the lake to two/four mile-known for it's big bass so most of the outboard types head for there.
We've been there many times on shore and sometimes noticed a boat far off in the distance heading up or down the lake and sometimes not.
Generally, all access is from the #12 side.Few ever tried to go in the woods roads to access the upper end do to the difficult-or virtual impossibility.
My evaluation:
Remoteness: Yes and no.None at the hwy/cottages,lots around the rest of it.
Camping: All kinds.
Fishing: Bass and Chain Pickerel.
Wildlife: Deer,Bear,Coyotes,Mink,Beaver, muskrat etc,the usual NS mix.
Interesting facts. This lake has a rough E/W orientation and esp in a west wind can make sizable rollers and whitecaps going the length of the lake. It's something to be aware of and careful of.Planning on early morning or late afternoon travels isn't a bad idea. You can easily plan on hours of paddling after leaving welton's landing to make it up the lake as you're typically fighting a headwind/waves.
2ibc- As with most lakes you're not familiar with, nobody would know the layout without a map-unless it was small and you could stand on the shore and see it all.I would assume that's to be expected.
You seem disappointed you couldn't access the more remote end with your vehicle and find a "wilderness" experience.I'm not surprised as easy access typically means lots of traffic-as you find on the hwy end.
Lastly, and no offense, but paddling a few strokes off shore and plunking yourself between a hwy and cottages may not give you all the data you require to render judgement on the other 99% of the lake.
Having said that,it is what it is.We like as we can get there for an overnighter reasonably easily, have a good time and see few people once we get up lake a bit. It's no interior NS so it's to be expected but for being so close to people,we find at lots of quiet places. Our last overnighter as we were heading back down the lake we saw four kayaks doing the same and that was it-and I was ok with it.
