Looks like its been a few years since anyone's posted anything about this one... Anyone paddle it recently? Thoughts? Endorsements? Warnings?
Appreciated.

I've been doing some research, would really like to paddle the river.
Flights are pretty expensive - and they only have a beaver so flight costs are the same no matter if you are 2-4-6 people.
Louise – Itomamis (160 miles ) = $ 3 260.00

Louis –Mouchelagane ( 96 miles ) = 2 076.00
_______________

$ 5 336.00 + tx

There is a way to add days to the start and not fly in, but can't swing the extra time at this point.

Let me know if you find some other way in.

thanks,
rab

Rab - that's per flight? Canadian $ ? And a beaver can take 3-4 boats (if they nest) and the same # of paddlers?
Thanks,
Christian

Beaver...two boats nested max (and even for that some carriers won't take nested boats at all).

I don't know for sure if it's specifically against the regs to do twin pontoon loads but I doubt you would find anyone willing even if it's legal. If for no other reason, it would burn up more than half the allowable payload especially for a long flight requiring full fuel loads.

Morning,
Sorry, should have said flight costs are the same for each pair of canoeists.
A Beaver in this case will take two people and one boat. So there is no cost savings the more people you have.
I think in your case you may be a solo paddler - they make take two solo boats on the same plane, but not sure.

Looks like a great river! Timing to get the right water levels and intensity of bugs would be key.

You mentioned that there is a way to add extra days and not fly in. Can you elaborate? Where would the put-in be?

I think the route is from the train line across Menihek Lake, upstream on the McPhadyen River, over the height of land into Quebec and south through a series of rivers and lakes to the headwaters of the Mouchalagane. I don't know the details of the best route from the McPhadyen to the Mouchalagne.

There may be other ways to access the Mouchalagane headwaters, the route above probably takes about 3 weeks to complete but that's just a guess because I only know details of the rail line to Quebec border portion.

Air Saguenay quoted me just under $8,000 CAD to run a turbo Otter from Manic5 to Summit Lake and then pick us up at the bottom. That included 3 boats (2 nested) and 3 guys, round trip.

Ouch!

Could go south to Cuba well over 10 times for that price tag.

Just sayin!!

It would be an epic canoe trip though...also just sayin!
