Great wave train - we know all about it looking alot bigger from river level. My brother, 2 nephews and I paddled the Berens putting in at Berens Lake in Ontario down to Lake Winnipeg (17 days on river starting in early August 2009). No trip report yet - just now recuperated - 3 weeks on river (including drive time) - 3 weeks heavy relaxation at home. A very vivid memory came to my mind after watching the vides: at 58.89.69; 94.08.18 our map read 'swifts - may be runnable' It looked alot like your Seal River wave train video, at least from level of swimming along side the canoe. The swim made me a believer in strapping gear into the boat. We paddled the Nahanni last summer and kept our gear strapped in but never had to combat test it. We swam a 500 meter wave train (at least it felt that far) (swift???) and it was another 500 meters before we made it with our canoe in tow to the shore. All gear stayed in boat including the spare paddle which was just tucked in. We've named that rapid 'Swim right, MoFo'.

Next year I'm promising myself I want a more leisurely pace and less rain, and maybe less mosquitoes even though they really loved my nephew Jonathan the very mostest.

Thelon? Kazan? Mountain? it's way too early to decide. Peace. Nicole

It must have been a very different trip from the one you did in 2006.
Looking forward to the TR!
Regards, Allan

So it's been 7 months and the report/journal still needs a bit of a final polish. Given that there is a good chance that will never happen readers will have to make do with the near final draft version I'm making available now.

WARNING
As per previous discussions it should be clear that this is a JOURNAL not a "report". If you feel that menu details and sleep patterns are superfluous fluff it might be best if you just stick to the photo gallery!

Fascinating!

I sampled some of it and lucked out on your polar bear story (two of them in one day) - neat! I'll have to go back in a quiet half hour and read it all....
