I don't know, but you could contact tag-a-long expeditions: http://www.tagalong.com/

Or these folks: http://www.texsriverways.com/shuttles.cfm

I ran the Green River and used Tag-a-long for an upstream shuttle and to rent a groover (We got the big groover and lust left it in the bottom of a Tripper XL the whole trip, as it was heavy). Service was good/reasonable without being fantastic.

It is a fantastic trip.

I would add that the canoeing is mostly just a way to travel down the river. The day-hikes are what are most spectacular. I typically hate hiking, but was impressed every time on the Green. Leave plenty of time for side trips. Also take a big canoe as with no portages, you can enjoy coolers with ice and fresh food and you can bring drinking water in jugs.

We are doing the Green in late September this year.

About ten years ago we did a hiking trip in Canyonlands National Park in late April. The daily weather varied from pleasantly warm in the 70s(F) to getting seriously snowed on. The river was running as we looked at it at the Confluence.

I would suggest as early in May as possible to get to desert flowers but its best to check a local source for best dates. April if you don't mind packing some extra warm clothing and the possibility of frozen stuff coming from the sky (it wont stay)

Thanks for the info. I figured a "groover" was something scatological and Google confirmed that. Links provided some historical weather data and it gets warm quickly down there even in March ---- sometimes!

I have been considering the Green River trip as well. I don't know much about the water levels except that, based on my inquiries, it seems to flow adequately right through the Fall (although by the Fall you might actually have to paddle!) However, having lived in the desert for many years I can tell you that you don't want to be there between June and mid September, it's just too friggen hot. April is really the loveliest time because the cactus flowers are in bloom and can be spectacular. But I'd guess that anytime after Labour Day would be the quietest. Myself, I'm thinking about either mid to late April or mid September to early October but probably not this year.

I did the Green in early April of 2004. Excellent trip. We started at Crystal Geyser a couple miles south of Green River. It was definitely early spring... fleece and long pants weather. 11 days later we were at the confluence and it was shorts weather, and most of the trees were leafed out.

We stayed a night at Bowknot Bend, and reading the register located in the stone structure in the middle of the saddle, we saw that someone had signed the register in January. So what is too early? I think that's a matter of opinion.

April is very nice in Utah, we've done several trips and the daytime temps are really enjoyable, with nightime lows near freezing. Due to the low humidity, temps fluctuate more with sunlight than anything. So once the sun goes down it cools off pretty fast, conversely once the sun is up it warms up pretty fast too.

We paddled the Green in late March of 2005. Weather was great except for a couple of nasty thunderstorms. Daily highs were around 15C and we had frost only one night. A few pricky pears were already blooming!

If you're driving, buy your beer in Idaho, Wyoming or Colorado on the way down. All we could find in Utah was 3% crap.

Cheers

Utah has some pretty strange liquor laws. I have seen reports on boating and climbing websites, saying that occasionally, the cops will pull over "suspicious" vehicles (rafters in particular) and ask some routine questions, particularly if you have any beer or alcohol - seems that its illegal to bring your own into the state?

perhaps its a quantity issue - don't know, just if you get stopped, I wouldn't admit to having anything int he vehicle.

As a counterpoint to the last two posting....I'm not generally one who buys my beer solely based on alcohol content. That said, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of microbrew that can be purchased in Utah. Both Wasatch Brewing, and Moab Brewing make very nice microbrews. I particularly enjoyed Dead Horse Ale, 10th Ammendment Lager and Evolution Ale. We bought beer based on what would taste good after a full day of hiking in the Canyons of southern Utah!!

Admittedly our beer shopping was limited to one of the supermarkets in Moab the night before we put in. Selection wasn't great.

In the end, we substituted quantity for quality and cut back on our water supply!

Looks like the trip is on. Are there any hikes or sights that are must sees? I have the Canyonlands River Guide but it is very sparse on hiking options.

You might read and mark your Guide.
