After downloading and registering Ozi Explorer 3.95.5.k on my new computer I do the following:
- download my tif.zip file
- extract
- import Single DRG map
- select my .tif file
At this point I get the error - "Cannot Find Georeference Data"

What am I doing wrong or what am I missing?
Please help, this is driving me crazy.
Thanks.

Wow,
I just went over to the ozi explorer forums and found a posting by Dave Patton, who is the best mapping and Ozi expert that I know of.

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/OziUsers-L/message/36043

Basically it's a no go importing canmatrix tiff files into Ozi. His posting says you can play with to get it to work but the reference points are off even then. His advice is to load and calibrate manually. (Unless I'm reading his advice incorrectly that is.)

Ted

OK, I got it. Not exactly as you suggested but it jogged my memory. I had to go back to Ozi and download the Geotiff support file. All is good, Thank you.

Back to looking at maps - just in case I get my tag.

Thanls again Ted.

I'm not sure what he is referring to. I've downloaded tiff file format since day one and have had no problems - other than this most recent setup.

The manual calibration is not something I would wish upon my enemy - very time consuming and the thinking that one must do gives me headache.

It is to bad he doesn't outline the amount of error he observes. Perhaps this Geotiff support file corrects this problem.

Perhaps I could use this error to explain the number of times we misplaced ourselves while hiking Gros Morne. :o

I just checked my geotiff file. Quite old so I replaced it with the new from the website.

I do manual calibrations all the time and it can't take any more than 4 minutes per map. Maybe we're doing different map types.

But you're right the new geotiff file is some handy.

cheers Ted
