I bought that sled for DF04 but never ended up using it. Brought it to Sudbury, but then ended up borrowing a friend's skidoo sled instead. Kinda looked like a big black coffin....carried all the gear fine, but weighed a ton!!!

I'm looking at getting the jetsled this year:

The sled you're talking about is pretty short and wide. I think it's meant more for ice fishing then winter camping.

PS, love your pics Steve. That one with the bears is hilarious....the one is smiling for you :P

Anyone framiliar with this item found at Canadian Tire? Looks all right and is really cheap....

I bought a large black sled from Canadian Tire four years ago... it looks like it might be made of the same stuff as the sled in your link... I used it for winter hiking/camping to tow my gear (I was on xcrountry skis) I drilled holes along the sides so that I could rope all my stuff in. It worked great and has held up well for the past four winters....

Just now getting around to reading in a little more detail some the posts on this topic.
Some excellent links - thanks folks.
hotelseven - that CT sled is 28" wide. Make sure it is going to fit yoursnowshoe track.
Sir Campsalot - that Jet Sled Jr looks like a nice unit at 20" wide and good high sides of 8". A little heavy at six pounds but I guess that the tradeoff for a rugged sled. Let me know if your going to order - I may be intersted as well. Perhaps we could save on the shippng.

Sounds like a good idea Rick. I especially like the cover you can buy for the sleds. Let me look around a bit more to see if I can find a Canadian dealer.

Sir C - the covers are only available for the Jet Sled and the Jet sled XL.
At 24"and 30" wide you have to be careful they will fit your snowshoe track.

I might be interested in one of those sleds if you find a canadian dealer.

Finally made it up to the Bass Pro Shop this week. Almost felt like I was at an Outdoor Show. Anyways they sell the Jet Sled and Jet Sled Jr. mentioned above; however, they're currently sold out. The salesman assured me though that they will be getting more in soon.

Also, I ended up buying a pair of wool pants and a few pairs of merino wool socks. Good deal on the socks, $12/pair.......looked the same as the "SmartWool" socks which were $21/pair. Can't wait for DF now 8)

Boy, did I get myself in a bit of trouble. As I mentioned in another thread, I ordered this sled a few days ago. When I informed my wife the daggers appeared in her eyes. She went to the closet and pulled out the Jet Sled Jr which she purchased as a christmas present for me a few days earlier. :o

I will wait until I get the new sled, but I may be returning the Jet Sled Jr. They each have their pros and cons. The Beast is a lot longer and a bit narrower, but the sides are not as high. But, that Jet Sled Jr sitting in my living room certainly looks like a nice piece of equipment.
