Yesterday we decided to drive in towards Rain Lake to see if the road is open or not. Hoping we could get into the park and do some snowshoeing. At about the 12 km sign the road is no longer plowed. We parked at the plow turn around, strapped on our snowshoes and plodded off down the road. Snowmobile's have been in and it looks like the groomer was as well. After about 1 km we found a side trail off the the right at the end of the lake and broke trail in there for a couple of km's. Great trail to somewhere (?) with lots of snow, maybe 1/2 meter or so, no machines and nobody. Great for the first time out on the shoes. Would have been nice to got there earlier and went in further. Got back to the van, had a tail-gate lunch and headed home.
If you are looking for a place with lots of snow, this is the place. Thought someone might be interested.

Merlin,
sounds lovely. Have you, or anyone else for that matter, done any winter overnight trips (say 2 to 5 nights) in the park. If yes, where did you go and how did it go?

Just curious as I am looking for a 4 to 5 night ski/snowshoe trip in early February. Trip is the operative word here as I want to trip not just park.

tks Ted

Sorry Ted I have not been in the park winter camping or tripping although some of the CCR people have. We are hoping to get into the park this winter but will probably go in at Kiosk. This will be a trial run for the winter gathering at the end of February.
