In general, most portages on Island Lake River and York River are well used by locals and well maintained. Portages on Red Sucker River disappear the farther north you go from Red Sucker Lake due to people from Red Sucker Lake travelling only to Sharpe Lake, a forest fire leaving jumbled burnt logs, and resulting new growth between Sharpe Lake and Edmund Lake. The portages between Edmund Lake and Gods Lake are not used very much, but relatively easy to find in the peat bogs due to slow growth. Be prepared to see nobody except on Gods Lake, Island Lake, Red Sucker Lake.
