Hey! We have a party of 2 canoes (intermediate white water experience with float bags) running the Kootenay River from Vermillion Crossing to Canal Flats the first week of July this year.

I heard of the White River through some threads on this site and we would love to try and do 2-3 days on it after the Kootenay. However, I am struggling to find any information on the rapids or potential flow on it. If anyone can provide some knowledge on it that would be much appreciated!! I also ordered "Whitewater Trips and Hot Springs in the Kootenays of British Columbia: For Kayakers, Canoeists and Rafters" which I heard could be a good resource but it hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks!!

Hi, we're planning to do some hiking in that area this summer and, as a paddler, your post interested me so I thought I'd see what I could find. First, there appears to be a White River on Vancouver Island but I think the links below are for the White River in SE British Columbia. Hope the links help and have fun. If you are able to run the river, please post a trip report.

Thanks for the info Ralph! That sounds like a great trip, if you know of any hikes that are accessible via the Kootenay River let me know.

Those links are a big help. I have seen that on youtube, but I hadn't run across those other links that describe the river. Fingers crossed the flow is appropriate the first of July and I can follow up with a trip report. Thanks again!

The Beaver Canoe Club in Vancouver has canoeists that regularly do a Kootenays Rivers Week and run the White. Not sure of the best way to contact the right people, but you could poke around their web page of Facebook or whatever.

Glad to help. We're going to hike in Top of the World Provincial Park and Height of the Rockies Provincial Park. I'm along for the ride, so to speak as my hiking friends will be doing the hike planning. I'm not familiar with the area so can't help with hikes.
Hope you have a great trip.
