Post subject:  suggestions for extended BC canoe trip?

I'm cooking up an 8-10 week trip to do next fall, between the beginning of September and mid-November..

Does anyone have suggestions for canoeable rivers originating or ending in BC? Is it possible to canoe the entire length of the Columbia River? I saw that a fellow wrote a book about doing it in 1990, but wonder if things have changed since then.

Re: Columbia River, A Sept start at Canal Flats up around the Big Bend usually will get you decent weather. There are a 'few' dams to navigate but it's not all in B.C. Wind can be an issue because of the narrow valleys near the start.
It mat not be real wilderness but certainly has historic cachet (David Thompson) I doubt if much has changed since 1990 in the way of access and features.

How about linking:

-Upper Stikine
-Car portage around Grand Canyon
-Lower Stikine
-Mouth of Stikine to Prince Rupert BC or Juneau Alaska

Forgot to add:
-Stage out of Smithers and take a twin otter north to put in.
-if you end in Alaska take ferry back to PR
-Train PR to Smithers back to your car!

Who has a twin Otter in Smithers? I think that the weather would be pretty cold by November.

All sorts of mistakes:
1) I did not see the november!!! I assumed next year in summer.
2) Alpine Air, but as I suspect you suspected it is a Turbo Otter, not Twin.

Sorry!

you could always postpone your columbia river trip to the spring of 2011 and join the 2011 David Thompson Columbia river brigade. I will be paddling the Kootney river until it joins the columbia and then onto Astoria.
