We have canoed in the BGI three years in a row, and also Bowron last year, so we are somewhat experienced. We are looking at the charts and wondering if anyone has taken this route, Toquaht to Lyall to the Lodge, along Julia Passage across the top of Tzartus Island down to Bamfield. Cannot see too many places to pull in in emergency, looks like rocky shore most of the way. Also very open to winds from Eagle Channel. Eventual destination would be Deer Group depending on time and supplies! Does anyone have any suggestions for us? This is for June 2012 onwards, we are not hardy enough for spring adventures!

Pick up a copy of "The Wild Coast " by John Kimantas. Might give you some idea. Very good section on the Deer Group as well as the Broken Islands.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Library has a 2011 version of the Wild Coast as well as the earlier one.

We stayed on Gibraltar and day tripped across to Julia Passage and back around Nettle in Imperial Eagle Channel. It was July, not a good week, bad weather and cold, so we did not venture far. Gained experience and confidence though. Your insight would be appreciated, going back next summer.
