Took a few days early May for an 8 day spring canoe trip.
We paddled from Westsyde N of Kamloops down the final few km's of the N Thompson before is joins the S Thompson and flows into Kamloops Lake.
River levels were rising from warm weather. A fair bit of debri coming down from the N. The South Thompson was cleaner.
We camped on a slowly flooding sand bar just W of the airport. Next camp was half way down the lake on the N side. Lots of beach still open although we were camping up in the driftwood.
We then stayed a few nights at Stealhead Provincial Park at the end of the lake past Savona. Nice park by the lake and we were before the summer heat and the May long weekend rush. There is a nice lake side park in Savona and a new library that are all within walking distance.
We then paddled back towards Kamloops along the S side of the lake with another nice lake side camp near Tobiano Golf Course dock.
Our truck was waiting for us at Tranquille Cr.
I have always wanted to paddle around this lake but access is limited with train tracks on either side.
Scenery was classic semi arid dessert with sage and dry pine. Lots of fish jumping in the shallows....they must have known I did not have my fishing rod...
And for train buffs/kids there are lots of opportunities to wave and get a honk from the trains and some cool tunnels and bridgework on the S side between Tobiano and Tranquille Cr.
We also used this quick trip to try out our new 20' Clipper Ultralight Mackenzie and custom spray deck from Northwater in prep for a bigger trip in August.
The kids loved there cockpits. The skirts come up nicely to keep them out of the wind and rain. We can't believe we have paddled all these years without a deck!.
The bigger boat sure is nice too with lots of room for gear, dry in the waves and has plenty of hull speed.

Nice pics. That is a rally cool spray skirt with the kid size cockpits in the middle.
