July 1-3 2016. This is the third year in a row that I have paddled this section of the Murray River with the Grande Prairie Canoe Club. This year we went a little further down from where we used to take out. Total trip kms was about 119 kms. The put in was at the Tumbler Ridge/Murray River boat launch on hiway 29 just outside of Tumbler. The take out was a nice little boat launch just upstream on the Pine River where the Murray meets up with the Pine. Had to get up stream a bit and it seems easiest on the left shore going up the Pine. Then ferry across in front of a little island with log jamming to the boat launch. To get to the take out turn south off hiway 97 on the west side of the Pine River and follow the road down to the boat launch. Harvey says the flow was at 276 cm/s when we started and 213 when we got done. So I'll just call it an average of 245 cm/s. The Murray seemed tamer this year than the last. It was a good run. The weather was decent. Had a little rain on the first day and a little rain in the night on the second night. Seen elk, deer, bear, and a lot more on this journey. I will attach a 10 minute video that I made using a hat cam. The video is pretty much experimental with recording footage and editing, but it should give some idea of the Murray River. Hope you enjoy. Here is the link.
