I've searched past post looking for a map for this loop and there's just SOOO much info it's impossible to weed through lol. Does anyone know where to get map? even i need to purchase one that's fine (I do love maps).

Also, I thinking on starting it from Flack Lk, pay to park at Mississagi PP ... sounds better then the Dunlop Lk access point. By all the threads I've read, idk if the area is still being developed and/or just WAAAY to busy to use as a "jump off".

TIA

Chrismar makes a map of the area.

I must have missed it, I thought I looked everywhere on their site and didn't see it. Maybe I'll email them or book an eye exam.

did it 20 years ago. Kevin Callan wrote up a map and description in Ontario's Lost Canoe Routes but that was in 2002 and its out of print.

You can also depart from Laurentian Lodge on Flack Lake.

They have decent room rentals and parking, and a great restaurant.

After we did the loop my wife refers it to a trip with more walking than paddling. Not real remote area but nice lakes and scenery

Thxs eberlynn & little. I know Kevin wrote about it, only problem is those write-ups are getting old and things change.

I'll check them out pinecones

Wondering the same Steve, I have a couple other backcountry trips planned that are more remote (doing this one after I do the Algoma Headwaters), so I was looking foe somethin tame. Just hope it's not too crowded or too well used.
On a side note, what's the chances you know anything about the individual selling the 14' Swift Solo Prospector in London (if you are from the area lol)? I know it's a long shot, but you never know.

We did it about 15 years ago. The highlight for me was Upper Mace. One of the most beautiful in Ont, IMO. Dunlop was a long boring paddle but had few cottages back then. If you look at the sat pix now there are oodles of cottages.

I did this route a few years back after watching Jonathan Kelly's video. I thought it was a good trip. I did the Aug long weekend 4 days. Other than Dunlop which is heavily cottaged and full of boats, I did not see a soul (well ok, I stopped at Ten Mile Lodge and went for a tour and the owner was nice enough to give me a cold beer on day 2). Lakes are not overly large which was nice since we had gale force winds 3 of the 4 days. That pretty much killed my fishing, but the rest of the trip was great.
I will note, bear activity was the highest I have ever seen in 30years of tripping, even the lodge owner warned me to be cautious as they have a large population in that area and very active. He was right, and they were the largest Black bears I have ever encountered. All within a stones throw of my camps. One even swam to the island site I was camped at on on Upper Mace. But like 99% of Bear encounters, we were aware of each others presence, they respected my space and I respected theirs and everyone went home in one piece. I am sure I could travel another 10x through that loop and not see another one, just a lucky trip time is all.
Overall I really enjoyed it, it was pretty easy as far as trips go, I stayed to the Crown land loop side and not the PP. I just used Kevin callan's maps and it worked fine and was still accurate enough. I compliment them with homemade ones from satellite images and my own markings.

It is definitely on my list to go back, this years vacations are all planned, but I think next year I will hit it again and hope for days that allow fishing since I hear it is great.

There's a post here from last year about doing some/many of the lakes in this route starting from Flack Lake:

https://myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewtopic. ... w=previous

It avoids the development on Dunlop Lake.

I, too, had a bear encounter on Upper Mace two years ago. I was paddling out on my way to Swamp Lake, went around the point from the main point of the lake and a large bruin was standing on his hind legs with his nose in the air. about 20' away on shore. I guess he smelt me before he saw me. A little close for my liking, but he tore off into the bush before I could even reach down and pull up my camera to take a shot.

Later that morning on the way to Dollyberry, a cub swam across the narrows, again only about 20' ahead of me. It ran up the ridge where I heard a larger animal crashing through the bush. I think it was following its mother.

Three bears in one morning. I think you're right about the bear population there.
