Found this thread when I was looking for info for a trip this year. Got back last week and just wanted to provide an update for anyone doing the same in the future.

The road was mostly a pretty standard gravel road. A few bad spot where you had to slow right down and you do need to keep an eye out for rocks sticking up above the surface. We were driving a 2 wheel drive pickup towing a trailer and it took about 50 minutes to get in. Any regular car would have no problem, though looking at it I can certainly see it getting bad after heavy rains.

The turn to the camp was clearly marked and the turn for public access after that was also clearly marked.

It did get much worse near the end and I it was a 800 meter carry in to the beach from where we stopped. If you have an AWD vehicle you could get closer. A vehicle with a lower clearance would need to park 140 meters further out.
