For those thinking of heading out to the HHWT system:

https://www.algonquinhighlands.ca/news-notices.php?id=1144

What I found confusing was the ontario.ca site shows a high (yellow) fire risk for the same region, but according to the township's Parks, Recreation, and Trails Dept., "the total fire ban encompasses the entire township of Algonquin Highlands. There is also a fire ban in the Township of Lake of Bays. This covers the entire Frost Centre area."

Things are very dry. We have relatives from Petawawa all the way to the Manitoba border, and there is pretty much a fire ban everywhere. If it isn't posted, it will be while you are out. Had the same comments from the one that just came from Pet, driving down using a variety of roads, including via Frost- low water and dry.

I too find it very confusing - and frustrating. The Ontario fire map is reporting a low fire risk in the entire Algonquin Highlands region, but they still insist on a ban.

Clearly, either one or the other is misinformed or mistaken.

On Jun 19, 2021 The Ontario Forest Fire Info Map shows Algonquin Provincial Park with sections of Low, Medium and High risk of fire.

Yes! "Effective Friday, June 18, 2021 at 12:01 AM the fire ban within the Township of Algonquin Highlands has been lifted. Day-time burning remains prohibited except for a small camp fire for cooking purposes"

That’s good timing, I’m headed out to the Frost Centre this weekend. Camping on Gun Lake.
