Planning a 2022 Wabakimi Trip. I have several FOW map books ordered to begin mapping a trip. I am wondering if anyone can provide a report of paddling upstream on the Flindt River. I want to travel from Wabakimi Lake to Smye Lake. Timeframe is late July.

Thanks.

izworskic - A question - Where are you putting in?

If it is Little Caribou or Caribou Lake, it would be easier to go down the Flint from a Smye lake put-in off that logging road and then end the trip with a paddle up the Caribou River from Smoothrock Lake since there are far fewer rapids to track up or portages to do.

from Wabakimi Lake to Wilkie Lake - about 16

from Wabakimi Lake to Little Caribou Lake take-out - about 9

if you are putting in at Allanwater Bridge and going down the Allanwater River, then it is probably easier to go up the Flindt!

The Paddle Planner website has a Wabakimi folder and you can check out its portage/rapids/campsite info on your route. The info seems to be taken from the Wabakimi Project maps. Check out this link -

For some maps, sat images, portage info on the Flindt, check out these two posts from a down-the-Flindt trip my brother and I did back in 2011.

Days 1 and 2: Down The Flindt River from the CN Tracks

Days 3 and 4: The Flint River down to Wabakimi Lake and Ogoki River Bay

I have a subscription to Paddle planner. I am planning to put in and take out at Smye Lake. Based on the elevations and the number of lakes it looked as if going up the Flindt River would be better than the Allanwater.
