I'm not going to tell you how great this is because that's getting repetitive! Instead, some random thoughts. Zebra stripes and mocs, BOLD; You guys carry waay too much shit; 8 Loons is a Raft; "Nimble Billygoat and Plodding Cow" Hahaha, very Anishinabe.; Congrats!! You are very lucky to have Andy / Andy is very lucky to have you!; Punctured boat noises really suck!; Looking forward to part 3!!

"...on the seventh day they did f#ck-all." :-) Funny.

Reminds me of a t-shirt I had back in high school - "...and on the eighth day God created Led Zeppelin." Also funny.

Hello tearknee; Excellent second part! Great pics! Congrats on the engagement! Good job on the blue berries and seeing a moose. Looking forward to part 3. Good sense of humour.

Take care,
Cousin

What an unusual series of events. Unbroken glasses, Chris, unhurt falling on rocks, the end of the 'trial run,' the cabin tour, Chris one last time, the unbroken canoe, and the meteor shower. Plays out better than fiction. Great read!

wotrock, I was honestly incredibly disappointed that it did not snow on this trip. It was so stinking hot every single day! Silly to complain about excellent weather, but we wouldn't have minded a couple more cloudy days.

Thanks, Cousin Pete! The moose was certainly a highlight.

GRS Riverrider, I may have to amend the "unhurt falling on rocks" to "it still hurts three weeks later and I may or may not have chipped a bone". This section of our trip was truly a wild ride. Most of it felt like a strange fairytale.

Just read both parts, really looking forward to the next one, love the story and the pictures. Congrats on your engagement! You guys look like a happy couple.

Would you have any tips on trying to get my non outdoorsy wife more into camping? I'd love for us to do something like that, but she has this incredible fear of wilderness and bears. Oddly enough anytime I tell her that I'm a seasoned vet when it comes to tripping and that she is in good hands, that doesn't seem to be enough. It's like she's stuck in the point of view that wilderness equals danger and won't budge.

I always end up either going alone or with friends. But would love for my wife to start coming with me on a regular basis.

Couldn't you have said "spoiler alert" before revealing that!! Even so, I guess I should read the rest anyway.
:-?

Excellent report -can't wait for part III.
Couples that paddle and portage together have long happy lives together and generally produce little paddlers with the same love of the activity (and we need more)., so you guys are off to a great start (and hey, you are 10 years in- just the beginning!)

Try this to the tune of "Brand New Key" by Melanie: (I used sing it as a lullaby)

I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seemes like you avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need!

Well, I got a brand new pair of paddles
You got a brand new canoe
I think that we should get together to paddle the lake so blue
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of paddles
You've got a brand new canoe

We make a team, I don't paddle with-out you
Marry me and our life startsall a-new

We've wandered down the portages and trail
Set up camp all around the world
Some people say, we lost our minds in the vales!

Well, I got a brand new pair of paddles
You got a brand new canoe
I think that we should get together, paddle the lake so blue
I been looking at the around a while
And you've got something for me!
Oh! I've got a brand new pair of paddles
Let us paddle into the sunset, way across the sea

La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Oh, I got a brand new pair of paddles
You got a brand canoe

(It has been 12 years, so forgive me if I do not have my version quite right. The rest of the verses escape me right now - something about running chutes and rollers...)

Now do you have earworms?
