Post subject:  The Pictograph Sites of Missinaibi Lake: Fairy Point & More

A couple weeks ago my bro - and fellow paddler -and I made amends for the impatience of our youth. Back in the early 1980's we did four successive summer trips down the Missinaibi from Dog Lake: twice to Mattice, once to Moosonee, and once to Moose River Crossing. Each time we zipped by Fairy Point and, if the weather was right, took no more than a quick look at the pictographs there. Once or twice we may have paddled right by! We had one photo - a 35mm slide - of the most famous Fairy Point pictograph face!

Well, we spent a day on the west end of the lake this June and got to spend some quality time with the three rock painting sites. If you are going to be in the Fairy Point neighbourhood this summer my post will give you a pretty good idea of where the sites are and what you'll see - and a little on what it may all mean! ... aibi-lake/

One caution - the Ontario Parks map of Missinaibi Lake manages to get two of the three pictograph site locations wrong.

Both the Whitefish Bay and the Reva Point sites are incorrectly located. See my post for the actual locations.
