Been a few years since I’ve canoe tripped. Didn’t even get the canoe in the water last year. Life and kids do funny things to your available time. Figured it was overdue to get my son back out there, as well as give my daughter her first taste of backcountry camping.
We headed into Site 56 on Lower Crane and did a two night base-camp style trip. Friday was setup and campsite fun, Saturday we did the Poker Lake Loop as a day trip, then Sunday we enjoyed the morning and packed up. Perfect little getaway for a 6 & 8 year old. Loop is in good shape, but man oh man that take out from Muck Lake on the South side is hell. Was also especially taxing on myself as I was portaging a 95lbs Nova Craft Prospector in SP3... really need to bite the bullet and go lightweight.
Bugs were hungry. Kids did exceptionally well on the day trip. I think I have two young canoeists on my hands
