The West Montreal river beings near the village of Shining Tree in Northeastern Ontario. Paddlers can travel for several days downstream to the Montreal River proper, traversing the northeastern edge of Temagami.

For our whitewater day trip, we paddled 23km of the middle section from Michiwakenda to Houston Lake. At mid-May flows, all of the rapids on this stretch can be run by skilled paddlers. Most are class two with the odd class one and a single challenging technical class 3. Portage trails are available to bypass the major sets if required.

This video gives the paddler a POV run of all the major sets encountered on this stretch of river.

Looks like a fun day trip! You had some nice saves on the class 3. Great skills!

Thanks for sharing.
