Kesagami River 2021 - "Unfinished Business" (the salvage edition)
I'm heading north again for some more fun and games (and perhaps a bit of misery)
Some of you may be aware that in September 2019 I decided to solo paddle the Kesagami River in Northeastern Ontario. The headwaters are located NE of Cochrane and are accessible via the "Detour Road" which services the Detour gold mine at the end of the road. Numerous rivers can be accessed from this road, all eventually flow into James Bay in the area of Moosonee.
-That trip didn't go as planned!
-I didn't finish!
-I last saw my canoe stashed in the bush beside the river 190km from the put-in![/list]
Flash forward 23&1/2 months......
I will doing the same trip, along with my regular paddling companion Sam82 we will paddle a tandem canoe (oh the horror) for about 12 days until we reach my 2019 exit point. There we hope to retrieve my canoe, split up and paddle another 5 days to the lodge on the Harricana River about 10km upstream from James Bay. Here we will meet up with a freighter canoe from Moose Factory that will shuttle us across the Bay and up the Moose River to Moosonee where we will catch the train back to Cochrane.
You can track my progress and read periodic updates here:
https://share.garmin.com/grumpy starting Saturday Aug 21 to Sep 9 or 10
You can also check out my CalTopo online map which shows the complete route with notes on campsites, portages etc. CalTopo has much nicer topographic maps and better satellite imagery as well, many layers that you can play around with but it's static so my live tracking will not show up there:
