We are looking to do some camping and canoeing on the Bow Lake (near Jasper). Any suggestions for campgrounds?

I am not sure if you are looking for backcountry, or car camping. There is nothing on the lake, but some car camp sites not too far away, and last Friday they were not very busy at all. Bow Lake is actually not too far from Lake Louise.

Here is a photo of Bow Lake from last Friday just to wet your whistle. :)

There's a fine drive-in picnic site at the south end of the lake. From the north end where the lodge is, there's a choice hiking trail up into the mountains in the back of dunkin's photo. As for canoeing on Bow Lake, that's pretty rare. It's a bit small for that, and prone to be windy. Not to mention a busy highway all along the east side.

If you like developed campgrounds, the place to go would be the big site at Lake Louise. If you prefer old-fashioned sites, then Waterfowl Lakes to the north is hard to beat. Neither are near Bow Lake.

We would want car camping. Do you have to book ahead for these campsites? We would take short trips with our canoes and kayaks. How is the lake for canoeing/kayaking?
