hello everyone,
am looking for some info on the North Sask. River,
i am going to be doing a trip from Edmonton to
Llyod ( maybe as far as Frenchman's Butte).
with the kids 9 and 13.
any rapids along the way(if so what class)?
how long apporx. is the trip?
good camping spots along the way?
it would be the boys first overnight canoe trip,
they have limited canoeing exp.(all in lakes),
does this trip require more exp.'d paddlers?
any other info would be greatly appreciated
have to say i just found this website a few days ago
and it is excellent!!!!!!
lots of info from nordegg to edmonton on the NSR, but hardly any from edmonton to sask, so that is why i ask the questions
have a good day!

Hi,
I did part of this trip a number of years ago. We went from Victoria Settlement to the Myrnam Bridge. As I recall, there were only a few riffles. Most of the water was like a long, narrow lake. Wind was an issue if it came from the front (not good) or from the back (good but only to a certain strength). It was a fairly slow paddle so give yourself lots of time. The valley was nice but much the same the whole way - fairly deep and mostly wooded but with some open areas and pastures in places. I suspect that as you go east, there will be more open areas especially on the south-facing slopes. We took our own water and I would recommend that you find places to get water before you leave and take enough water so that you don't have to use river water or try to find springs or incoming streams which will be of questionable quality. Finding camping spots wasn't a problem. We usually camped along the shore but there were a few island possibilities. Hope this helps.
Have fun,
Ralph

I changed the corresponding link in Alberta Route Information to the one given by jmc. Thanks!
The old one was no longer valid.

I just tried the link that jmc posted above, and the pdf opened for me.

Clicking on this link from jmc's post should work:
