6 of us are looking to do the Wheeler river in July. Does anyone have any info on that river? I know that water levels are low this year. I am curious in low water, if the Wheeler is paddlable. Thanks .... jack

I was just in the area yesterday and none of the rivers looked low. The Wheeler where the road crosses it is mostly a lake but it didn't look low. It also looks like it holds a good amount of water. I canoed the Hawkrock River at the end June last year and there were a couple rapids we had to get out of the boat and drag it a bit but CRCO does a guided trip on it in August. I've worked up in the Athabasca Basin for the last couple years and I have always found the water levels pretty stable throughout the year, but there are some seasonal streams. The Athabasca Basin is gentler than the shield and has a lot of topography. It's a really unique scenery up there, no where else like it in the shield.
