Post subject:  Caddy Lake canoe trip questions

I'm planning to do a 5ish day trip to in the first couple weeks of August this year. I am pretty sure I want to start at Caddy.

The plan is to find spots to camp and then spend day time hiking, fishing etc.

I haven't done a canoe trip since I was a kid. My partner has never done one. That said we are both experienced campers.

Looking for some input on how to make it a somewhat challenging but relaxing trip.

I haven't been very far into that route. Hopefully someone with experience chimes in.

Have you considered the Bird River upstream from Tulibi? It's a very nice route and beginner friendly. There is relatively no current and so upstream travel is fine. You can paddle as far as you feel comfortable. Elbow is very nice lake though it is oversued. Macgregor Lake is quite nice and Snowshoe if very nice.

The route also has the benefit of much less boat traffic. The boat traffic on Caddy Lake was not enjoyable the two times I have been there.

Definitely worth putting a portage or two between yourself and the boat traffic.

You can portage east into Granite Lake to get away from the crowds.

The park requires that you camp only at designated sites but up to you whether you stick to that. Campsites (official and unofficial) up through Caddy and North/South Cross have a lot of garbage and toilet paper/poop back in the bushes.
