Can anyone provide a description of the Bonaventure like those in the AMC River Guide? Best time of year? Minimum skill level? Recommended put-in and take-out points? camp sites? Scenery?

Any info is appreciated!

The Bonaventure River is a beautiful river for canoeing...I've never seen water so pristine and clear as in that Gaspé peninsula river. You can literally read the embossed letters on a nickel coin five feet under water ! Because the river bed in entirely made up of light grey rocks and stones, the water takes on a beautiful aqua blue hue bordering on turquoise.
If you are seeking out some whitewater adventure on that river , I suggest you do it before mid June...after that is really gets too shallow for any enjoyable WW canoeing, especially in the upper reaches of the river .
There is summer time canoeing ,mostly flatwater canoeing on the lower section , but it can get *really* shallow by July.Furthermore , summer canoeing there coincides with the salmon fishing along the same river and anglers tend to get quite grumpy when canoes saunter by too close to their fishing holes
Check out this site to give you an idea of the area. Although I did my own planning while there, this outfitter can provide a helpful shuttle service directly from the takeout.
or have a look here too:
