We fly out to Lac St. Patrice in 10 days and are wondering what water levels are like. S. Ontario is bone dry and I know the Noire is dam controlled, but is it so low that we should rethink the flight? I heard of one outfitter recommending against Petawawa trips unless we got rain due such low water levels... We are a little concerned and hoping for rain!!!

I don't know about the Noire, but I can vouch for the Pettawawa. I was on the Pettawawa last week -- no rain to speak of since then, so I'm sure things haven't improved.

Terrifying. The Pettawawa north of Lake Travers: Normally class III/IV or worse reduced to not much more than large boulder gardens. I've never seen the river as low as it was.

Fortunately, I wasn't there for the whitewater. (Canoeing with my kids, age 9/10, strictly portaging).
