I've been dormant for some time. My link for La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve canoeing was out of date; here is a current link:
http://www.canot-camping.ca/
The 2011 season (for canoeing) runs from May 20th to September 11th - with one week more for limited areas.

I'm not sure about later in the season since it's more of a safety issue with hunting, but I know for a fact that if you want to go earlier you can just call ahead and they are fairly happy to accommodate. Last year we went in early May and they made sure someone met us there to sell us the permits.

Be sure you know where you are going though since there will be nobody in the park, and when you call have your route mapped and let them know you know what you are doing or they may decline.

SAISON 2011

20 mai - 11 sept. (8h à 20h)
12 - 18 sept. (10h à 17h)*

* durant cette période, le centre de location est fermé et seul le circuit Jean-Péré est ouvert.

You can have access only to the Jean-Péré loop after Sept 11 and this only for a week.

Enjoy !

I will have to remember that for next year, their short season always sent me canoeing somewhere else.

Yeah 3 hours, the drive up the 105 to Grand-Remous is sketchy sometimes, lots of twists and turns but once you turn left and on the 117/Trans Canadian Highway, it opens up and the traffic speeds up a bit to. If they are working on the highways it slows down a lot though, there doesn't seem to be many detour options.

From Le Domaine to the top of the park is really quick everybody drives like its a Nascar race.
