On September 16, 2007 kayakers Tommy Hilleke, Fred Corriell, Eric Boomer, Willie Kern, Anthony Yap, Pat Camblin, John Grace, Billy Murphy and Joe Barkley embarked on a short 5 day trip on the Mecatina River. This was most likely first ever descent down the canyon section of the infamous river.

Scroll down to October 1 and October 9 entries. Page contains also video (latest Quicktime required to view it).

December section contains probably the best Petite Mecatina video, but you have to suffer first half full of advertisements:

I have LVM DVD #24 with the video of that first descent of the Petite Mecatina canyon. It is pretty impressive. It ends abruptly with nasty dump & rescue of one of the kayakers. According to the email I received from John Grace (one of the participants) their camera got wet and the footage didn't turn out. Sad...

Hi,
I was looking on the web and saw this old thread on the Petite Mecatina, so I joined the group to reply. I was on the 1980's Petite Mecatina trip everyone reads about in Canoe magazine that was led by Bill Coursey. My short response is that Tom McCloud's 2003 summary "DON'T!" is spot on. I can provide more details of our trip, if anyone wants. I have my old journal somewhere. We called the mountain portage around the canyon M-F-er mountain, and it truly was. Cheers, Michael
