Hi, was thinking of doing #15 and wondering if anyone has any opinions or pictures on the R sites on the circuit? Would be 3 families with 7 young kids over 4 days so campsite quality is of the utmost importance. We're looking for the best beach sites, with the best swimming from shore, ie not too mucky, or stagnant/filled with lily pads. 11-05R and 11-33 are my gold standard on map 1 so far.

Day 1 to 15-15R, how is this site? Or is 15-31R better? Don't mind the extra distance

Day 2: I read 15-50R is great, and someone said 15-53 (non reservable) is even better? We usually like a short day 2 for maximum beach time so either works coming from 15-15R or 15-31R. And looks like there's some offshoot lakes to explore if looking to paddle. Someone said 15-53 doesn't have any large trees??

Day 3: To 15-82 or 10-49? Neither has a beach, is one better set up? Have good swimming rocks? More sunlight?

Any pics or opinions would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks!

The R sites are for groups of at least 10 and no more than 20. You aren't eligible to use them- the reservable sites.

3 families with 7 young kids - that sounds like over 10 to me :-)

15-15 is a gorgeous site with a long sandy beach and the sand goes out for a long ways. In fact you have to go out pretty far to get up to your neck.

I have not been on 15-31. I have been on 11-05 and I think 15-15 is a longer beach. But 11-05 backs into the woods and the beach at 15-15 backs into a swamp.

There is limited cell phone coverage on 15-15 if you go up into the woods near the thunderbox just FYI.

Also note I recently started a facebook group for La Verendrye and there are a few people there who recently did 15

Also in case you have not yet seen my google map of La Verendrye - you can download it into your GPS if you want

10-49 I've been on a few times. There is good swimming for my type of swimming which is not a sandy beach but rather big rocks and not muddy water. There is only room at the put-in for 1 or 2 canoes so if you have a lot of canoes you'll have to take turns. Every time I've been there was with a Scout troop and 7 or 8 canoes so it takes a while to get everyone up onto shore.

This time of year you should also plan for blueberries on your trip in La Verendrye. Many sites along circuit 11 have them and they will be very ripe now!

Do you happen to have any pictures of 15-15? I don't think I've been to a site near a swamp before at La Verendrye, trying to imagine what it must look like. Every campsite I've ever been at was tall canopy forest

This is looking right into the swamp. It doesn't look like a swamp until you have to go retrieve gear that got blown into it during the extreme thunderstorm that ripped through your camp

Google Satellite view also shows the swamp.

Bing maps imagery seems better

Bummer, I missed this post. I haven't been paying attention since I can't cross the border :( I hope you had a great trip! For what it's worth, I love 15-15, you don't notice the swamp. 15-50 is the no-brainer (900m of beach!), and 15-82 is the best site in that area - roll out of your tent and do some mellow "cliff" jumping.
