We had a great day yesterday (Sept. 2, 2001) on Pemichangan checking out the northeast end.

The portage from Baie a Roger to Lac a Roger is very wide, level and well used. An easy 200m. Lac a Roger is a nice, small, quiet lake with a good (but sloping) lunch spot that's also good for swimming.

The P800 from Lac a Roger to Lac Spittals, on the other hand, is very difficult. Also well used and marked with tape, it starts out very steep and rough underfoot. There are several trees down that make portaging a canoe difficult. There are some sections that while relatively dry now, would be a veritable quagmire in the spring or during times of normal rainfall.

One would probably need a pretty good reason to do that portage. And getting to Lac Croche to complete a Pemichangan loop is probably not a good enough one.
