Here are a few pictures from our trip to the Mistassibi NE in May 2008, high water.
Camped on the side of the road getting lost on our way to the put in. This was the wrong road.
Found the right put in on Lac Froget.
A few adjoining ponds after crossing Lac Froget
One of two short 'make your own' portages
The final (brutal) creek drag to the Mistassibi. When the going gets tough, start kicking the boat
Upper river is narrow with fun rapids.
Didn't go above 0 degrees until after 10 AM. The only excuse we needed for late departures.
So Relax and let the snow pass.
The only rapid we didn't run.
Endless RII and RIII rapids, km on end
Aftermath of my swim after a close encounter with a big hole. It was a long, difficult hike back up to the boat. Easy to loose a boat and or gear when the rapids run for km's and there's no pool at the bottom
River widens midway through with nice hills. Picture taken during another snow flurry. Better than rain!
Rapids keep getting better.
Shore scouting the last RIII after being cautioned that it was a monster
Steve lining up for the last hole on the final RIII.
Sun, warmth, and a nice sunset for our last day on the river
Taking out a few km upstream of the last bridge trying to knock off a few km of flat water paddling. Not a good idea. It was a brutal drag through the burn.
Fantastic trip. I'll be back there!
