First off I am new to the site and would like to say hi. I have been canoeing for 4 yrs now and cannot get enough of it. The most adventurous I have gotten so far has been in Keji because of the developed nature of the parks and the security blanket that that provides but I am ready to branch out and go a little wilder. I am thinking of a short 1 to 2 night trip between 6th and 9th lake in the Tobeatic. The questions I have are how "busy" are the sites during the Labour Day weekend and are the portages in good shape? Thanks for your times guys.

Matt

Does anyone have any recent insight as to the best put ins for the Tobeatic? I am really looking for any information that would make my decisions a little more informed.

Wow not much in google - lots of references to a book which you've likely seen by now. I guess your only option might be to pick it up if there are no replies here.

You are right I have read and seen all of these resources and they are great. I was just looking for more one on one knowledge that I may be able to gather from someone. Is the Tobeatic really not used that much?

I think it is a combination of factors - Tobeatic not used that much and this site not used much by Nova Scotians.

I'm an ex-pat so your thread caught my eye :-)

Good point. Any idea if there is a NS canoe forum?

Just saw this post. Should be very little traffic this time of year. I have more experience on the Lake Rossignol, Shelburne and Jordan River end of the Tobeatic. This map is the best one. Maybe at trail shop or Mec.

Happy trails, lots to explore in that area.

I've travelled in the Tobeatic some, though not for a few years now. I travelled mostly in the Moose Lake, Mink Lake area. Can I help?

little late as just seeing this, but I've traveled the area regularly the last number of years and maybe able to help. posted a couple of the bigger trip reports on www.southwestpaddlers.com but haven't posted anything recently. we usually do a big tobeatic trip in the fall and few shorter trips in the spring. exploring as much as we can. PM anytime with questions.
this is probably the best online resource and see someone already posted it

also Andy Smiths book "paddling the tobeatic" has lots of great info,

Never too late guys! Crazy summer this year but my plans are for a 8 day trip next year starting from Eel Weir and heading towards Masons. I have read paddling the Tobeatic. I am mostly interested in the availability of sites and etiquette when using them ie. if one is occupied and you need a place to stay can you double up? I will be bringing my 10 year old daughter(she has been camping, hiking, canoeing with me since she was 18 months old) I want to make sure that she gets as much out of the trip as possible. How is the fishing? Any helpful hints or advice would be great.
