I'm reading Helge Ingstad - The Land of Feast and Famine. I think that Pike's Portage is the way they went and then somehow ended up in what is now known as Ingstad Creek. Great book btw. There's a bunch of Norwegians who have backtracked Ingstads' journeys in this area. There are still remnants of his old hut at a placed he calls Moose Lake that I can't find on any map. They have even discovered his winter quarters somewhere up there as well where his now flattened wood canvas canoe still lay to this day.
