In 2018, Alkan Air took over the Mayo and Whitehorse floatplane base from Black Sheep Aviation. In addition to the popular rivers in the Peel Watershed, Alkan offers flights to the Mountain, Keele and Nahanni Rivers in the NWT. Typically aircraft in the Yukon charter out for lower mileage rates than equivalent aircraft in Norman Wells or Fort Simpson. Furthermore, commercial flights to Whitehorse from Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary are very economical.

Thank you for posting the update.

Plus from Germany there is a direct charter flight to Whitehorse.

I’m going to copy and paste some river names here from your website:
From Whitehorse we can fly paddlers into the headwaters of the Yukon, Liard, Big Salmon and Nahanni Rivers.
From Mayo we provide aircraft access to the rivers of the central Yukon including the Peel River Watershed. We provide drop-offs at the headwaters of the Hart, Wind, Snake and Bonnet Plume rivers and pick-ups at Canyon Creek and Taco Bar. We can also access other rivers in the region including the Keele, Mountain, Hess, Stewart and Beaver Rivers

Hi Adam

As I understand your homepage, Alkan Air does not offer charters with smaller planes such as the 185 or Beaver from Mayo. Is that correct? If yes, does Alkan intend to change this issue for the future?

Kind regards,

Stefan

Hopefully Adam will post to clarify/confirm but I received a quote for flying from Mayo that included Beaver options.

Hi folk. Sorry for the slow reply (didn't have email notifications turned on I guess).

I can confirm we have an Otter, a Caravan and a Beaver based in Mayo and certified to fly externally loaded canoes.

The Otter can fly 3 total (2 nested together on the left of the aircraft, 1 on the right) for groups of 6 paddlers.

The Caravan can fly 2 external boats (nested together on the left of the aircraft) for groups of 4, plus an internally loaded boat if you want to go to a group size of 5 or 6.

The Beaver can fly 2 external boats (nested together on the left of the aircraft)

We also have a second Otter on floats based in Whitehorse and we are obtaining external load certification for it.

I do not plan on adding a cessna 185, but we do slightly discount the beaver for groups of 2 and the caravan for groups of 4 with restricted payloads.

I'll have booth at the Toronto Outdoor Adventure Show later this month so if you're in Toronto stop by and say hello.

Regards,

Adam

2020 pricing for the rivers in the Peel Watershed as well as the Hess and Mountain River is now available on the Alkanair.com website via the quote request forms. A new offering this year is the ability to pick up groups of 8 paddlers and 4 canoes on for trips finishing at Taco Bar (Wind, Snake, Bonnet Plume Rivers) or San Sault (Mountain River).
