For sure we will invite them to present at the WCS. Perhaps next year.

I'm most curious on how they will make out in the watershed change from the Dismal Lakes to the Rae River and then the Rae itself. I'm sure there will be unanticipated surprises. But they are a tough lot with a great attitude.

We canoed down the Tree River in Aug 2013 starting 135 miles above Port Epworth on Upper Atinigi Lake at an elevation of 1550'. There was extensive portaging and lots of shallows that require considerable effort to work through. The terrain is rugged, but it is spectacular country that is completely wild and untouched by man. Figuring out the best route and logistics are not any more complicated than the other Arctic trips we have done and are within the reach of any group that is physically fit, makes conservative decisions, show good judgement and have a fair amount of barrenland experience. The group just needs to understand up front that the trip doesn't entail running many rapids, but rather portaging around falls, rapids and gorges as well as lining, pushing, pulling and dragging across shallows.

As I remarked in another thread, Mary McCreadie's Back chapter shows a photo of a falls that is plain not on the Back. That falls is rather on the Tree.

We did the Tree River this past summer 2013 and it was done in 1995 by Will Lange. It is a tough trip with extensive portaging and long steep canyon sections with waterfalls that need to be avoided. Well worth the effort but just keep in mind this is more of a hike than a typical river trip.

I'm new to this forum. I just posted about the James River. My husband and I descended the upper part of the Tree in 2019 and portaged into the headwaters of the James. But it took us until this year to go back and complete the James all the way to the Hood. The Tree is very beautiful, but has lots of really big rapids. We portaged alot.
