As I said, here comes the March contest. This one will have a theme (sorry jcw41!).

The theme is "Spring Tripping". Rather seasonal, no?

So, now's the time to go and ferret around in your photo archives and pull out the very best early season picture you have in there.

After testing the format in February we have come up with some specific rules/guidelines for March.

One picture per person.

Photos should be no smaller than 640 x 480 and no larger than 800 x 600. (If you are unsure how to resize your photos, this thread contains some helpful advice. )

Email your picture to Neilluck @ videotron.ca (no spaces before or after @) and put "CCR photo contest" (without quotes) in the subject line. Indicate your screen name right at the top of the email body text.

Submission period March 1 - March 15. Voting period March 16 - March 31.

1st prize: Deep personal satisfaction.

I meant to say this earlier, but it slipped my mind - sorry.

Why are these entries being done via email? Why not have members post their stuff directly onto this site, which is what other sites I belong to do for Photo Contest entries.
The email route, imo, spoils many of the shots because their resolution and exposure can get altered as they are transmitted multiple times, sometimes via hardware that does not have the same capacities as the sender does.

We had discussed that very question and decided that we wanted the entries to be as anonymous as possible.

I'm not an expert but I don't think that emailing or uploading a picture detiorates it's quality. Especially, for on-screen viewing (72 dpi) (Doing multiple "saves" or "save as" will detiorate a jpeg for sure.)

When I receive them I change the names without opening them before uploading them.

So far, 2 entries received.

Keep 'em coming!

I think you should include the winter season in this contest.

The prior contest was open to those to submit any picture and that sort of takes away from the hard water season to just skip over to Spring...

Sounds perfect!
By then I'll have sorted through the winter photos to pick that perfect contest winning photograph.

I think that last month's contest suffered from the fact that it kept slipping down the list and was lost from the latest posts. We kept getting reminders but some of these were in new threads so that it then became difficult to find the entries and then to know where to vote and to see the voting results.
Most of us like seeing other peoples' canoeing pictures so the contest is a good idea.
I think that it would help this month if there were only one thread. And could a notice of it be put somewhere in a prominent place ( maybe on the signin page) ?

It's hard to believe that it's already March 15.

This time around we have received about 130 entries.

C'mon folks, midnight is approaching quickly, even as we speak.

Don't you know how to re-size an image or send it through email? We can help, just PM Barbara for detailed instructions of how to follow the easy 32 step procedure.

I really thought this idea would take off like gangbusters but perhaps we're missing out on a key element in the concept for overwhelming participation.

How many people here (besides me) have pictures of the inside of their pack?

130 entries sounds like a helluva pile of gangbusters to me! Not enough for you or are 125 of those form the same person?

I was JK about the 130 entries.

When I get home tonight I'll count 'em up.

Familiar Beatles tune:

She was just --------------- (hint,hint)

Well, I'll never dance with another...
