I like my GoPro- I have the version 3. It is easy to use and has a lot of interesting features. It also has a remote so i can turn it on from a distance as well as use my iPhone to turn it on and off etc. What i like doing are underwater and aerial pics while on the river. I sometimes take a 8 meter extension pole so i can put the camera on the end and stick it into deep holes or under river banks or high overhead. GoPros are amazing.
Check out these amazing gopro videos...however not paddling related but unreal non the less.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x76VEPXYaI0

GoPro camera's are great.

My boys have used it on a quad-copter and on other objects like the tractor while farming tobacco. This link below shows life on a tobacco farm according to my son Chris. It's his video channel with all of his videos. (Farm Life GoPro)

Here's a video where he attaches it to our dog Chevy to record him running through the bush behind our house.

We can also watch the videos being taken by the camera when it's attached to the quad-copter in real time via wi-fi.

The GoPro cameras can seem a bit pricey if you buying your first one, but considering what you can do with it when it's in the weatherproof case, I figure it's money well spent.

I agree on the tripod mount issue. It should have come with a standard mount.
