Has anybody tried this gizmo? I bought it for various reasons, one of which is to inflict slide shows on unsuspecting visitors! :P . Amazingly, Picasa doesn't seem to work with this device even though both are owned by Google. I've tried various programs---Photobucket, Amazon 'Cloud". I can get them to project on the TV but not as a slide show. There was 1----I forget which---that let a slide show run but it showed the whole screen of my laptop, not just the photo.

Experience? Comments?

I just received one as an early Christmas gift & am also interested in finding out everything it can do. There is a pretty good review which discusses everything it can & cannot do: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422300,00.asp. In addition, I found a short article which says:

ChromeCast Photo Slideshows
While looking at the default ChromeCast receiver for doing cast playback, I found support for photo slideshows.

The photos would be loaded onto the ChromeCast device instead of being casted from the Chrome browser tab.

There is support for pausing the slideshows and for doing sliding transitions between photos. The photo slideshows can also have audio tracks.

Currently, the default receiver supports 4 kinds of media: video, audio, mirroring Chrome tabs and photo slideshows (with audio).

Technically, this is interesting since these are all the kinds of playback that you would need if you wanted to share media from your mobile device to your ChromeCast device. Google has not released an app to share personal content on mobile devices to ChromeCast, but it looks like they have everything ready on the device if they wanted to.
