If you've ever wondered "how do I....", this is the place to seek advice. Any questions regarding how to use the forum features and functions, or about your User Control Panel and CCR account, are welcomed.

This would also be a good place to do some testing of some the doodads and whatchamacallits that you may have been wondering about.

No problem...that I know how to do. :D

First, you need the link to the YouTube video you want to post. Do that by right-clicking in the address bar on YouTube.

Then, flip back to your already-open CCR reply box.

Click on the youtube box.

This will bring up [youtube][/youtube] , with your cursor already placed in the correct place. Now, just click and paste the url in there.

Link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb3XAP0c8WU

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb3XAP0c8WU[/youtube]

Code:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb3XAP0c8WU[/youtube]

Of course, you can do it manually by typing the coding before and after the url.

Does that help?

User Control Panel

The User Control Panel (UCP) is where you can make changes to your CCR profile.

First, you need to click on the link to the UCP. It is located at the top right side of the forum pages.

Attachment:
UCP01.jpg

Clicking on that will take you to your UCP:

UCP2.jpg

Over on the far left side, you will find a link to "Profile". Click that link, and you will go to the page where you can make changes to items in your profile:

Now, if you want to add or change your avatar, the photo that appears under your username in each post, you will click the link on the left side "Edit avatar".

You will be taken to this page:

Attachment:
UCP4.jpg

You then have a choice of options for uploading an avatar.

Most people will use "Upload from your machine". Clicking the browse button will give the opportunity to find the image on your computer.

If you have an image on your own website or blog, you may want to use the other options.

Please don't play around with "Avatar dimensions" or "Local Gallery"....I have no idea what those do, so you would be on your own. :D

The specifications for CCR avatars is set by administrator control. Basically, your avatar should be a maximum size of 150 x 150 pixels. Smaller than 80 x 80 pixels, and it's pretty hard to see.

Hope that helps. If anyone has any questions, or the instructions aren't clear, please feel free to post here in this thread.

If there are questions or quandaries about other things, this is the thread to post to....also any testing of features and functions, this would be a good place to do so.

We're here to help.

Yipee! A thread I can post on.....

I got one for ya', well, 2 actually..... The pic I have for an avatar is 1084 x 1684, 1.73 mbs.
I'm guessing the 1084 x 1684 are them "pixel" thingy's so, since I don't have one of BK's handy scruntchable nappy's to compress it I could use a little input?

part 2..... how do I take one of those really l-o-n-g site address' and "nappy scruntch" it to hide under a roll over that says (here)? (I'll gladly attempt to translate that into english if someone is willing to "teach the dumb kid" how that works.)

That should keep me busy and out of mischief .....

edited to add: ....... but I doubt it.

There have been a couple of threads where "how to resize a photo" has been discussed.

Here's a recent one that gives a few options:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=30817&hilit=resize

It sounds like irfanview is a popular and handy tool.

I use Paintshop, some folks use Paint, it's all a matter of playing around with the program you choose, to get the hang of things. Always make a working copy of your photo to experiment on, though.

Also, be aware that reducing a pic of that size down to something small enough to be an avatar my severely reduce the quality of the photo. Once you've resized it down to 150 x 150, you'll be better able to judge if it's going to be recognizable.

To make any link appear as text in a post, you can use the url coding to work that magic.

Long explanation:

link example: http://irfanview.com/

to make the word "irfanview" the clickable link, type

[url=

before the actual url:

[url=http://irfanview.com/

then type ] at the end of it.

type the text you want to appear as a clickable link next:

Irfanview

then type [/url]

and then type the rest of the text:

is a handy software program

You end up with text that is a clickable link:

Irfanview is a handy software program.

Code:
[url=http://irfanview.com/]Irfanview[/url] is a handy software program.

To make it obvious in a paragraph that the text is a clickable link, an accepted method is to go blue, with all or part of the text that is the link:

Irfanview is a handy software program.

Code:
[url=http://irfanview.com/][color=#0000FF]Irfanview[/color][/url] is a handy software program.

A lot of time, people won't realize that certain words are links, if they aren't a different colour. Blue is a rather universally recognized colour for clickable links.

As for the first question, if you don't have a programme to modify and alter images (like Photoshop) copy your image into an "Avatar" folder or elsewhere (only if you want to keep the original as is) and then open the image with the Windows image and fax viewer.
On the bottom right there is an icon which will say "closes this program and opens the image for editing" when you hover over it with your mouse.
Once you have it open there, click on image menu item and go down to attributes.
A window will open in which you can input the size you want in boxes "Width" and "Height" then click OK and save it in the folder of your choice.

Dear Barbara,

How do I understand what women want? They say one thing, but mean another.

Sincerely,

Confused in Minnesota
