There’s been confusion in Ontario, over what is permitted during the recent stay at home order beginning Jan 14, 2021.

My view is that it would be unlawful to buy a canoe/paddle/pfd from a private seller on kijiji, even if they offered curbside pickup and etransfer payment. However a ‘store’ could sell the same items, again, provided curbside pickup.

What if somebody buys a canoe on kijiji, then tests it on nearby open water later that day? Is that unlawful?

I’m not looking for a way to skirt around the rules here, besides, there’s no great deals today on kijiji anyways. Just looking to clarify, at the risk of identifying the usefulness of differing policies. What happens, if say, we’re locked down until April/May? Will there be a glut of buyers then?

Thoughts?

I am not a lawyer so this is opinion only. But, I don't think it's against any law to purchase anything, especially with etransfer. And, exercising is a permitted activity. So in my mind the real question is if paddling is permitted. It would be some sort of jerk that would charge you with that IMHO. So, picking up a canoe on the way to the water is reasonable. But as they say............opinions are like arseholes.
