There is a 16' bluewater Kevlar canoe I might be able to get my hands on the looks solid but the exterior is heavily worn and refinishing would be needed. I will try and take a look in person shortly but was wondering is there anything different about refinishing Kevlar? And any thought on what would (lets say in normal times) be a reasonable price range for a boat that is still in solid shape but old and heavily stretched and worn?

Hello Coanbu, this is probably the best website that you will find for seeking the info that you do, and folks here will be happy to help, however, it's unlikely that anyone will hazard a guess at an actual value of something without at least seeing photos of it, or knowing how old it is.

I suggest posting some pics and additional info when you can get them.

And, asking if there is anything "different" about repairing Kevlar might be a bit vague. Different from what?

It's not entirely dissimilar to repairing fibreglass, but very "different" from repairing aluminum, cedar strippers, wood and canvas, Royalex, Royalite, etc.

What specifically are you asking about repairing kevlar? More info will yield more useful responses.

Cheers.

I know the boat you are looking at if it is the $1800 one and IMO that is overpriced for that boat. I ran the pictures past a professional repair person and they said it needs 3 coats of epoxy and then varnish.

I don't mind beat up canoes, and I even don't mind an occasional project. But for me, I'd prefer to find a project canoe at well under $1,000. Maybe I'm a certain mix of cheap and determined, but for north of $1,000 I actually expect to get a decent canoe that's not too beat up. To me, an $1,800 boat would be in very good condition. But everyone's different.

Not me, So far I have just asked for more pictures. Nice to get my impression of the asking price seconded. I might engage a little further if enough people pass she might get flexible. Though this your I would not be surprised if someone still takes is at that price.
