Most long distance canoe trips are planned well in advance. I would urge people to use caution in planning trips in winter to places like the Carolinas, Virginia, Kentucky or any place that does not touch the Gulf of Mexico. I have been in Atlanta, Georgia when the high was 14 degrees F with blowing snow. No need to travel all of that way to find weather similar to being at home.
Even some trips to Florida can be disappointing unless you get to Miami.
Too true. It was eight degrees F today in Harrisonburg VA and Tampa topped out at 57. Everglades City however was 87.
There are three Floridas.. Panhandle and the North where it freezes pretty regularly at night and it snowed ten days ago.
Then the middle one is down to Tampa.. above freezing not really summery either.
Below Tampa... shake and bake normally. But not always. It was just above freezing even in the Everglades two weeks ago.
We are paddling the Hillsborough River tomorrow( just north of Tampa). It will be time for paddling jackets and light fleece.
